Week 34 - Our Big Milestone!!

We made our goal of 34 weeks. There were so many times that I didn't think we would make it but I am so glad we did. We have one milestone left - the healthy birth of our twins.

We had an OB appt this week. We were hoping to get our csection date (the latest possible birthdate for the babies) but the hospital has not scheduled it yet. We saw the babies' heartbeats on u/s and passed the NST (Fetal Non Stress Test). The NST is used to make sure that the babies are not under any stress but checking their heartbeats and number of movements.

Babies Progress:
Your babies now weigh about 4 3/4 pounds (like your average cantaloupe) and are almost 18 inches long. Their fat layers — which will help regulate their body temperature once they born — are filling them out, making them rounder. Their skin is also smoother than ever. Their central nervous system are maturing and their lungs are continuing to mature as well. If you've been nervous about preterm labor, you'll be happy to know that babies born between 34 and 37 weeks who have no other health problems generally do fine. (WOOHOO) They may need a short stay in the neonatal nursery and may have a few short-term health issues, but in the long run, they usually do as well as full-term babies.

My Progress:
I have had lots of contractions this week - some days more than others. It is definitely a sign that things are moving along. They were able to see the contractions when I had my NST this week. I also made the 20 pound mark finally. I gained 3 pounds during this past week so that has to be a good sign that my little ones are growing.
