Week 31 - A plan in place for Baby A's Kidney

We had our appointment with the pediatric urologist yesterday and we put a a post-birth plan into place. Baby A will have a ultrasound right after he is born to determine renal function in both kidneys. The expectation is that the bad kidney will have no function and the good kidney will have normal function. He will then be on a daily dose of antibiotics for 4 weeks until he has a renal reflux test. One of the problems with MCDKD is a side issue of reflux. They need to verify that urine is not backing up from the bladder to the non-functioning kidney, which could cause infection. If the test is clear, which they expect it will be, we will just monitor the kidney over the next coming years. If it is not clear they probably will have to take the kidney.

Babies' progress:
Your not-so-little-ones are just a bit closer to their birth weight and height at around 4 pounds and 17 inches. With each added layer of baby fat, your babues skin starts to look more and more like it will when they finally get to see the light of day. You can expect your miracle-gro muffins to gain about a half a pound of weight per week from now until about two weeks before birth.
Your babies are still-developing immune systems have gained substantial strength over the past few weeks getting them in full gear to face our disease-ridden world. Their cute little noggins (which could already be covered with luscious locks or just purty peach fuzz), are still soft because the skull bones have not yet fused together. As much as that sounds a little too vulnerable, their “skull softness” allows for a much smoother passage through the birth canal during labor—something both you and your little swimmers will appreciate when it’s finally time to “go!”

My progress:
Everyday I get a little larger.
