Inauguration Day

This wasn't our first inauguration in DC (we went to Bush's first one) but it definitely different.

We got up at 3am and were in line at the metro at 4. We made it to the city by 5 without too much trouble and waited in line at the Dubliner so we could watch them broadcast the MSNBC Morning Joe show. We had lots of fun watching the media celebs and government officials come and go. We had great seats that kept us off the camera but could watch all the action.

We decided to venture out around 10 to see if we could get a place on the Mall. We quickly realized that it was a bad decision and returned to the Dubliner to watch it on TV. It was fun to watch with complete strangers from all of the country. We grabbed some lunch after it was over and tried to wait out the crowd to head back home. I guess we didn't wait long enough because you still couldn't get anywhere near the metro. We decided to walk home. 6 miles and 2 1/2 hours later we were back at our house and took a well deserved nap.

I have never seen so many people in my entire life. It was a little scary, but almost everyone was well behaved, even when they realized that there was no way they were going to get on the mall to watch the events. When we were leaving, it was almost like a natural disaster happened. People were just aimlessly wondering the streets trying to figure out how they were going to get home.

All in all it was a good day and I am glad we went.
